Native Bees: Their Biology, Diversity, and Role as Pollinators of Native Plants
Presented by the Wolf River Conservancy and Memphis Botanic Garden with support from Buckman. Heather Holm, horticulturist and biologist, the author of Pollinators of Native Plants and Bees: An Identification and Native Plant Forage Guide, travels from Minnesota to discuss native bees and other pollinators and their relationships with native plants. She will also sign copies of her books; a limited number will be available for purchase at the event. $4 admission benefits environmental education programming of both organizations. Prepayment required by August 7th. Wondering what to do with nature’s bounty? Join Sherri McCalla and learn how to turn herbs into tasty beverages. Sherri is a Master Gardener, long-time member of the Memphis Herb Society, and MBG’s Herb Garden Curator. Sherri will demonstrate and guests will be able to taste herbal waters, juices, teas, shrubs, and cordials. Tasting the cordial will require proof of age (21 or older). Recipes will be provided. Urban Forestry Advisor Classes
Learn from certified local experts how to maintain the trees in your yard and protect the trees in your community. The local chapter of the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC) will be conducting it’s annual Urban Forestry Advisor Classes at the Memphis Botanic Garden starting Sept 6th . Classes are open to anyone and will run 5 consecutive Wednesday mornings from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. For a total of 20 hours. Cost is $85 and includes a one-year membership in TUFC. Flyers and applications are available in the Master Gardener Office. For additional information call 901-636-4128.
