Garden Workshop Series with Kim Jameson - Fall Wreath with Natural Elements
Garden Workshop Series with Kim Jameson | Saturdays, July 21, August 18, and September 15

10:30-12:00pm | Catmur Horticulture Building

Kim Jameson, current owner of Kim Jameson Design and previous owner of Gestures Flowers and Gifts, and our own Floriculturist at Dixon Gallery and Gardens, will lead a three-session workshop sharing her experience and knowledge of floral design. Participants will refine their skills in this hands-on series which will take each of their designs to the next level. They will learn “tricks of the trade” and create their own design to take home. Please bring clippers. All other supplies are provided. Participants may take one or all of the classes.

September 15: Fall Wreath with Natural Elements This workshop will provide techniques and instruction for using the bounty of fall to design your own beautiful wreath.

Turf Plot Demonstration Workshop
Shelby County Extension is going to have a Turf Plot Demonstration on October 2, 2018, at the Agricenter International, 7777 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN. Booker T. Leigh and Dr. Chris Cooper will be at the turf plot to answer any questions concerning winter care of turf grass, soil pH, getting your lawn ready for winter and applied pre-emergence herbicide. Ten types of grasses will be discussed: Latitude Bermuda, Celebration Bermuda, Discovery Bermuda, Northridge Bermuda, Palisades Zoysia, Royal Zoysia, GEO Zoysia, Solow Zoysia, L1 Zoysia, and HGT Bluegrass (Health Growth Turf). Forest Exploration Day Camp
This week ( October 8-12) we will learn about the Big and Small of our Forests, how animals adapt, gather food, explore water ecosystems and gather animal tracks.

Each day campers will explore our forest, learn about trees, our woodland areas, forest animals and interact with the big outdoors. Grades 3- 6. Price: $35.00 per camper. Maximum class size is 30.

Herbal Work Study: Herbal Gifts
The first two hours will be spent weeding, grooming, thinning, planting, or whatever else needs doing in the Herb Garden. The last hour will be spent learning about making herbal gifts. I will have cold water and bug spray available, you bring your favorite hand tools for weeding and grooming (soil knives, Cape Cod weeders, old kitchen knives, trowels, pruners, gloves, etc. – no hoes or rakes needed, though). Everyone will get to go home with a handout that includes tips and recipes. Arrive at the Horticulture Building in the south end of the parking lot by 8:15a.m. The group will leave the building promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please dress appropriately: sun hats and closed toe shoes are suggested. Note: this learning opportunity is “purchased” via a barter system: you must work the first two hours (8:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.) to attend the last hour of class (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.), making this a free event!).
