Extension Month in Tennessee

Extension Month in Tennessee

March is Extension Month in Tennessee. Extension is a national educational program
supported by USDA through the nation’s land-grant universities and administered with
funding from state and local government. In Tennessee, there are Extension offices in
each of the 95 counties, and the Shelby County Extension office invites everyone to join
our celebration.

The Memphis Area Master Gardeners will also be celebrating their 25th Anniversary this
month by hosting the 16th Annual Spring Fling Garden Show and Plant Sale. Join us on
March 27-28 from 9am-5pm at the Farmer’s Market Big Red Barn at the Agricenter.  Admission and parking are free.

The 2020 Spring Fling Garden Show and Plant Sale has an impressive lineup of speakers
for you to enjoy including Rick Pudwell, Director of Horticulture and Outreach at the
Memphis Botanic Garden and Suzy Askew, retired Dixon Garden and Gallery Educator
and Volunteer Coordinator. Carol Reese, an Extension Horticulture Specialist and nationally known speaker will also be there along with several local speakers. Demonstrations will be a big part of this event as well. There will also be activities for the entire family. Children will enjoy participating in Kid’s Corner activities on Saturday, March 28 from 9am-5pm.

The Spring Fling 2020 Garden Show and Plant Sale will highlight over 30 vendors offering
unique plants, artisanal crafts, accessories and garden-related items for sale. Gardeners will be unable to resist the unique finds and bargains at our Master Gardener Plant Sale
with more than 1,000 plants.

Memphis Area Master Gardeners will also be on hand to answer your gardening questions at our “Ask a Master Gardener” booth. If you have any garden questions, stop by the “Ask a Master Gardener” table for solutions. All proceeds from the Spring Fling Garden Show and Plant Sale benefit the Collierville Victory Garden, youth programs and community horticulture education.

County Extension offices offer services for all citizens including the state’s award-winning
4-H youth development program and summer youth camps. In addition to the traditional agricultural production recommendations, we offer family and consumer educational
programs as well as healthy living courses. The increasingly popular courses for Master
Gardeners (and gardeners in general) are also conducted through county Extension
offices.

Extension is helping create real life solutions for Tennessee farms, families and future. If
you have any questions about our Extension, programs please give us a call at 901-752- 1207. Additional information about our 2020 Spring Fling Garden Show and Plant Sale can be found on our website www.memphisareamastergardener.org.

Join us at the 2020 Spring Fling Garden Show and Plant Sale to celebrate Extension

Hope to see you there!
