It’s that time of year again! Applications for the 2023 Tennessee Extension Master Gardener (TEMG) Program are now available and are being accepted through July 29, 2022. If you possess a passion for learning about horticulture as well as a desire to share that knowledge with others, then this program is for you!
The Shelby County Master Gardener program is a fifteen-week horticulture-based educational
lecture series. This series will provide volunteers with both the tools and training needed to offer horticultural education to the community. This series is provided with the support of the
University of Tennessee and Tennessee State University (UT-TSU) Shelby County Extension
office. Horticultural topics are presented by UT-TSU Extension agents, specialists, Extension
Master Gardeners and other local experts in their respective fields. Students (interns) will attend classes from January until April. Interns will learn a wide variety of gardening topics from landscape design to plant nutrition and woody ornamentals.
The 2023 Extension Master Gardener program will meet once a week on Tuesday evenings
from 6 to 9 pm at the Agricenter. The fee for this 45-hour course is $150.
Interns agree to provide 40 hours of volunteer service through the local Extension office and the community within one year of completing intern training. The interns then assist with providing the public with research-based information on garden topics.
Applications are available at the Shelby County Extension office and on the Memphis Area
Master Gardener’s website at
