Abelia is an easy-care, arching ornamental shrub grown for its glossy foliage and long season of small, tubular, lightly fragrant flowers. In zone 8a it’s a reliable landscape plant that blooms from late spring through fall, attracts pollinators, and often holds its leaves through much of winter (semi-evergreen). It works well as a foundation shrub, low hedge, or colorful accent—especially in compact, variegated cultivars like ‘Kaleidoscope’ and ‘Rose Creek’.
